BELOW ARE LISTED SOME EXAMPLES OF PROJECTS.

Project 1. Fractal Pattern Formation
Description:
Fractal is never-ending pattern. Fractals are infinitely complex patterns that are self-similar across different scales. They are created by repeating a simple process over and over. In this project, students will learn how to design repeating fractal pattern, like fractal Sierpinski triangle, Koch Curve. And more importantly, students will make a fractal pattern in different colors experimentally.
| 1 Session | 1 hour | Grades 3-12 |

Project 2. Chromatography separating ink
Description:
Chromatography is one of widely used separation techniques. In this project, students will learn the fundamentals in chromatography, and will learn how to separate pen marker color inks. Further, students will create colorful pattern using chromatography separation.
| 1 Session | 1 hour | Grades 3-12 |
Project 3. Burning Cotton Strings and paper
Description:
Burning is a high-temperature chemical reaction. In this project, students will burn normal cotton string, and pre-treated cotton string to find the difference. Then students will learn why pre-treated string burning is so impressive. And students will also test paper burning and understand why the paper cannot burn when wrapped around metal rod.
| 1 Session | 1 hour | Grades 3-8 |
Project 4. painting/writing on Egg shells
Description
Computer silicon chip is manufactured by etching micro-fabrication. In this project, students will learn some fundamentals behind this micro-fabrication technique, by painting or writing on egg shells. And students will learn some basic chemical reaction on the egg shells.
| 1 Session | 1 hour | Grades 3-12 |
Project 5. Ice World
Description:
Ice is so common in our daily life that we seldom value its special properties, like melting point, density. In this project, students will be challenged by lifting up ice cube with a string without using tools. From this experiment, students will have a deep understanding on ice/water properties and learn how to apply it to problem solving.
| 1 Session | 1 hour | Grades 3-8 |
Project 6. Magic Wand, Tea and Painting
Description:
There are plenty of compounds in tea drink. In this project, students will act as magician to change the color of brown color to black using magic wand, then change black color back to the original one using the other end of magic wand. And then students will learn how to make a special black ink with tea extraction, and draw a Chinese style water-color painting. By doing this interesting experiment, students will learn redox chemical reaction in tea.
| 1 Session | 1 hour | Grades 3-12 |
Project 7. “Dancing” milk
Surface tension is the tension of the surface film of a liquid caused by the attraction of the particles in the surface layer by the bulk of the liquid, which tends to minimize surface area. In this project, students will understand this concept by doing two experiments: 1) pick up coin from the water bottom covered with a layer of pepper on the water surface, using fingers with touching any pepper. 2) colorful milk patterns can be created and will be dancing through pre-designed channels.
| 1 Session | 1 hour | Grades 3-12 |
Project 8. “SEEING” is not always believing
Description:
Refraction is the bending of a wave when it enters a medium where its speed is different. In this project, two students in the picture are on the way to school. When watching this picture through a bottle full of water, one student is going to school, the student is on an opposite way to home. By doing this experiment, students will find easy to understand light refraction.
